Known as the "Land of Temples," Tamil Nadu boasts well over 350 historic sites nurtured by ancient dynasties like the Cholas, Pandyas, and Pallavas. These include sites with a galaxy of temples that are now celebrated as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Some historic sites in Southeast Asia share ideas and themes with pre-12th century Tamil, Kalinga (Andhra and Odisha), and Gujarati architecture.
