Madhya Pradesh is a state in central India. It has been the heartland of India for thousands of years, as evidenced by its prehistoric painted caves and galaxy of temples. Cradled with lush forests and ancient rivers, Madhya Pradesh preserves over 300 historic sites.
Of particular note are the 3rd-century BCE Sanchi site with mostly Buddhist and some Hindu monuments show reliefs with cultural scenes, dress and tools in use. a Buddhist masterpiece radiating serene grandeur. The Bhimbetka’s prehistoric rock shelters are even older with 10,000-year-old paintings. It is the state where many of the fabulous Gupta era Hindu monuments are found, as well as Gwalior's and Khajuraho’s early temples. The artwork discovered in Madhya Pradesh show intricate carvings which dance with information about Indian culture and life.
