Uttarakhand historic sites

Uttarakhand is nestled in the soaring Himalayas of north India. Its glaciers and terrain is the source of several of India's sacred rivers. Its hills and valleys host many Hindu, Buddhist and Jain historic sites.

Uttarakhand is known as the Devbhumi, or “Land of the Gods,” because it is home to some of Hinduism’s holiest sites—Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Jageshwar among them. These have been a part of the pilgrimage route (tirtha) active for well over 2000 years. It is also home to early Buddhist cave shrines and Jain temples.

Uttarakhand is home to over 100 historic sites.
