Jharkhand is a state in the eastern part of India with lush forests and rugged hills. Considered to be home of many tribes, it has been a land of unique as well as syncretic traditions.
The hilltops and river valleys of Jharkhand have been historic hubs of temples and monasteries. Archaeological excavations have revealed a rich Buddhist, Hindu and Jain past. These excavations have been limited so far. Of note are sites along the Domadar river valley, as well as others such as at Itikhori, Deoghar and Jaduguda.
